After Care

Aftercare is huge for getting the full benefit of a massage or holistic session. Beyond water and an Epsom salt bath, here are some excellent after-care ideas, grouped by intention so you can mix and match

 Support the Nervous System

• Rest or gentle downtime (even 20–30 minutes). Let your body integrate the work.

• Slow breathing  or a short body scan meditation.

• Avoid overstimulation for a few hours (heavy workouts, loud environments, intense conversations).

 Emotional & Energetic Integration

• Journaling: note sensations, emotions, memories, or insights that came up.

• Grounding practices: barefoot walking, holding a stone/crystal, or simply placing your hands on your lower belly or heart.

• Energy sealing (if you work energetically): visualize light around your body or gently sweep your hands down your arms and legs.

Physical Care

• Gentle stretching or yoga (especially yin or restorative styles).

• Use oil or balm to reduce pain or inflammation.

• Warmth: cozy socks, a heating pad, or warm herbal compresses.

 Nourishment

• Herbal teas:

• Ginger or peppermint (circulation & digestion)

• Chamomile or lemon balm (calming)

• Nettle or oat straw (replenishing)

• Light, whole foods for the next meal—soups, steamed veggies, protein, healthy fats.

• Avoid alcohol for 12–24 hours if possible (it can blunt the benefits).

Topical & Sensory Support

• Essential oils (applied diluted or inhaled):

• Lavender or neroli (relaxation)

• Frankincense (integration)

• Rosemary (clarity)

• Dry brushing (later that day or next morning) to support lymphatic flow.

 Sleep & Rhythm

• Earlier bedtime or a nap—bodywork often unlocks deep restoration.

• Screen-light reduction in the evening to help the nervous system settle.

 Practitioner-Specific Aftercare

Depending on the modality (Reiki, craniosacral, holistic, distance sessions etc.), aftercare may include:

• Staying hydrated for 24 hours

• Avoiding extreme temperatures

• Not scheduling intense sessions back-to-back

• Observing changes for 1–3 days without forcing interpretation
